Site Plan Or Plot Plan

The site plan or plot plan is included to locate the area belonging to any building, showing all the details of interior together with surroundings. The site plan should be prepared before constructing the house and should represent the following information,

1. The boundary of the plot, shape of site and exterior house dimensions.
2. Setback line at the front, back and sides.
3. Any permanent boundaries or marks existing should be indicated on the site plan.
4. Names and widths of existing streets and roads whether of concrete, asphalt, etc., should be indicated. Grade elevation at centre line should also be indicated.
5. Grade elevations at corners of plot and at corners of house should be indicated by contour lines.
6. Size and location of garage, if detached.
7. Number of plot and block, if any and names of adjoining properties.
8. Directions of prevailing winds and north line.
9. Footpaths, if any, widths and kinds of footpaths.
10. Zoning and building restrictions which may affect the site plan.
11. Size and location details of gas line, under-ground drainage, water mains, man-holes, ventilating pipes, etc., should be indicated.
12. Location of fire hydrant should be marked.

Planning regulations:

The planning regulations have to be considered by an architect while planning and designing the layout of the buildings. The regulations govern the following building aspects are,

1. Lines of buildings.
2. Built-up area of ??buildings.
3. Open spaces around buildings and their heights.
4. Provisions of size, height and ventilation of rooms and apartments.
5. Water supply and sanitary provisions.
6. Structural design or sizes and sections.

Pushups – Incline And Decline

While the standard pushup is by far the most popular type of pushup, there are variations in form that can be utilized to concentrate the work on different parts of your chest and arms. The two variations that we will be looking at are the incline pushup and the decline pushup.

The incline pushup is very similar to the incline bench press. Start by getting into position to perform a standard pushup, and then place a chair (or other piece of furniture) underneath your feet. By lifting your feet off the ground, you will simulate an incline bench press. This will shift some of the work onto the shoulders and upper-chest (Pectoralis Major- Clavicular head). The higher you raise your feet, the more the workload will shift onto your shoulders. If you were to lift your feet high enough to where your body is in a handstand position, the exercise would be the same as a military press.

The decline pushup is very similar to a decline bench press. Start by getting into position to perform a standard pushup, and then place a sturdy piece of furniture underneath your hands. This type of pushup simulates a decline bench press. This will shift some of the work away from your upper chest (Pectoralis Major- Clavicular head), and onto the Pectoralis Major (Sternal head) and Triceps Brachii. Because decline pushups are easier to perform than standard pushups or incline pushups, they are a great workout for beginners to get comfortable with pushups.

Submit to Directories

There are many directories on the Internet. These are web sites that contains categorized lists of other web sites. Some directories are general directories, listing sites on just about any topic, whereas others specialize in particular subject matters or areas.

One simple method and straightforward method to increase your web site's traffic is to submit it to as many directories as possible. In general, the more directories that you are listed in, the more traffic that you will get. There are two reasons for this:

1. When people browse through the directory, they may see your listing, click on it, and thus visit your web site. Thus each individual directory listing tends to bring some traffic to your site (obviously listings in more popular directories will generally bring more traffic than listings in relatively minor directories).

2. Search engines such as Google tend to take the number of links to different sites into account when ordering their search results. In general, web sites that have more links leading to them ( "backlinks") tend to be ranked higher in the results than web sites with fewer links, and of course, higher ranked web sites tend to get more traffic from search engines. This is why many webmasters prioritize marketing activities that will help increase the number of backlinks. Links from directories are as good as any, and are usually free and easy to obtain (all you have to do is submit).

The main issue with submitting directories, is simply the amount of time it takes. Submitting to a directory generally requires finding the directory in the first place, then locating the submit page, and finally filling out a form on that page. While that process may not take long for one directory, doing it for hundreds of directories would take an age. Fortunately however there is an alternative – you can use software to automate much of the submission process, and thus get it done much more quickly.

Deferred Rent – Debits and Credits

Deferred Rent

What is it?

The simplest way to understand deferred rent is to think of an example. Let’s say you started a business and the first thing you did was sign a five-year lease for office space. In an effort to sign you as a tenant, the landlord (aka “lessor”) offers you lower rent payments in the first year that “escalate” (i.e. go up) as the years progress. To keep it simple, let’s say the rent schedule is this:

Year 1: $1,000 / month = $12,000 / year
Year 2: $1,250 / month = $15,000 / year
Year 3: $1,500 / month = $18,000 / year
Year 4: $1,750 / month = $21,000 / year
Year 5: $2,000 / month = $24,000 / year

These amounts represent the actual cash that you will be paying each month. When booking the journal entries for this, this will be the credit (either to cash or a payable). The question is what is the debit?

ASC section 840-20-25-1 states the following:

Rent shall be charged to expense by lessees (reported as income by lessors) over the lease term as it becomes payable (receivable). If rental payments are not made on a straight-line basis, rental expense nevertheless shall be recognized on a straight-line basis unless another systematic and rational basis is more representative of the time pattern in which use benefit is derived from the leased property, in which case that basis shall be used.

You see, the FASB requires that rental expense be “recognized on a straight-line basis.” This means that the same amount of expense must be recognized each month, regardless of the actual rent payment during the month. Let’s calculate our monthly rent expense.

From the table above, we can easily compute that the total rent paid over the course of the lease is $90,000. ($12k +$15k + $18k + $21k + $24k). This figure, divided by the total months in the lease (60), gives us out straight-line rent expense:

Total Rent / Total Periods = Straight-Line Rent Expense per period

$90,000 / 60 months = $1,500 / month = $18,000 per year.

We now have the debit in our journal entry.

With a debit to expense for one amount and a credit to cash for another amount, the plug goes to deferred rent. Depending on the payment schedule, deferred rent can either be an asset or a liability.

In the case of a lease with increasing payments each year, as in our example, deferred rent is a liability. The liability balance builds through the first two years when the expense exceeds the cash payments, levels off during year 3 when these amounts are equal, and then drops down to zero over the course of the final two years when rent expense is less than the rent payments. The journal entries for each year are as follows:

Journal Entries – Year 1

Dr. Rent expense 1,500
Cr. Deferred rent 500
Cr. Cash 1,000

Journal Entries – Year 2

Dr. Rent expense 1,500
Cr. Deferred rent 250
Cr. Cash 1,250

Journal Entries – Year 3

Dr. Rent expense 1,500
Cr. Cash 1,500

Journal Entries – Year 4

Dr. Rent expense 1,500
Dr. Deferred rent 250
Cr. Cash 1,750

Journal Entries – Year 5

Dr. Rent expense 1,500
Dr. Deferred rent 500
Cr. Cash 1,750

Here is the monthly deferred rent liability balance over the course of the lease:

A List of Different Types of Traffic

Traffic can be defined as the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a web site. It can also be another way of defining the visitors of your website. It is with foremost importance that you build traffic to your web site. It is after all, one of the secrets to success in your home online business. In order to do so, keep in mind the following types of traffic you may want to develop:

1. Traffic from search engines. Popular search engines such as Yahoo, MSN or Google can be used to search for desired information. You may want to focus on getting your rankings up so that the results will show on the first part of the page.

2. Traffic because of content. This means words, graphics and everything else that can be found on a website. A major factor in creating traffic in your website is content. Without content, what's there to look at in your page? If you want to entice customers in patronizing your products or services, it would help if you have detailed yet concise information. Make sure you write regularly or constantly update your website.

3. Traffic due to advertising. Just like in any form of business, advertising is a surefire method of attracting customers. You can research on pay-per-click advertising on search engines or specialty sites, but also bear in mind that there are other means of advertising. You can advertise through the newspapers or send emails to your friends who will in turn send it to their friends as well. Advertising costs need not be expensive. It only takes creativity and finding the right source. Always bear in mind that advertising works!

4. Traffic through the various directories. You can sign up to become a part of a directory site. Examples of directories are article directories. These sites can be discovered through utilization of search engines. These directories are really very useful especially if you want to create traffic in your website. Just Do not overdo it, though, or your site might be thought of as a SPAM site.

Active Directory Support

Active Directory is a Microsoft product that offers a variety of network services, including LDAP-like directory service, Kerberos based authentication, and DNS based naming and other network data.

Using the same database mainly in Windows environments, Active Directory also allows system administrators to assign policies, deploy software, and install critical updates required for organizations. Active Directory serves as a repository for information and settings in a central database. Active Directory networks can differ from small installation with just a few hundred objects, to a large installation with millions of objects.

There can be hundreds of issues relating to a faulty execution of your Active Directory. It can also be a result of improper DNS configuration and can lead to a wide variety of errors, as all Active Directory services rely on the ability of the devices to position domain controllers, which is done through DNS queries.

With online technical support resources, you can also improve performance of your Active Directory and other functionality issues. As such, troubleshooting Active Directory errors has to do with troubleshooting functionality. It’s significant for the Active Directory to not only function, but also to perform well. Virtually every aspect of Windows networking involves the use of the Active Directory in one way or the other. If the Active Directory is having trouble in staying step with ongoing network demands, there can be some very obvious consequences. For example, users might experience extremely slow logins.

Similarly, users may face problems in displaying the Exchange Global Address List. Your server support technician will show you effective techniques that you can use to find out the nature of your Active Directory’s performance problem and troubleshoot it for you.

Even if everything appears to be working correctly, support technicians verify that your Active Directory is completely functional.

If you run a small business, buying server support services from technical support resources will be highly useful for you. It will not only help you to come up with a smarter productivity but also eliminate a need for you to hire a full time IT staff. And, 24×7 availability of these resources remains the prime factor.

Road Accidents and First Aid

ROAD ACCIDENTS AND FIRST AID
Author – Dr.Jimmy.M.L.
1. Accident rate and ‘golden hour’
The major cause for death below fourty years of age in the world population is road traffic accidents. Hence it is called pandemic of twenty first century. The Indian R.T.A. rate is six percent of the total world rate, even though the total number of vehicles in Indian roads is one percent of the total world number. R.T.A. death rate in India is double that of the developed world.
The chart of deaths occurring after road traffic accidents can be grouped into three peaks. First peak of deaths occur immediately after the accidents. The major reason for death in this group is head injury. It is usually non preventable. The second peak of deaths occurs within first four hours after the accidents. This period is called `Golden hour’. The main cause of death in `Golden hour’ is blood loss. The third peak of deaths occurs three weeks after the accidents. This is due to multy organ failure. This has to be treated in the hospitals. If we can give correct first aid and shift the patient to the optimum hospital as early as possible; then we can reduce three fourths of R.T.A. deaths and can also improve the quality of life obtained after the treatment completion of accident victims.
2. ‘Control’ at the accident site
First of all, the care providers or volunteers should protect themselves from getting injured at the accident site. Then, off the `ignition’ of the involved vehicle. Abstain from carelessly throwing lighted cigarettes or other ignitable materials at the accidents site. Otherwise it may ignite the spilled fuel from the vehicle and produce major fire. The accident victims should be removed from the vehicle to a safer place by slowly removing the heavy objects fallen on their body instead of pulling them. If there are more volunteers at the accident site, then we should take their help also instead of doing everything by ourselves. We may send some volunteers to inform the police, ambulance, the hospital where we are going to carry the victims and relatives of the victims by phone.
1
3. ‘Triage’ and order of the first aid
When many persons are involved in an accident, they are sorted by an expert and are given different colour cods according to the order of priority in which they are to be shifted to the hospitals. This is called ‘triage’. The victims who are to be shifted immediately to the hospital are given red, second priority victims are given yellow and the persons who may be shifted at a later time are given green color codes. Dead persons are given white and the persons who are very serious but will not survive even after shifting them to the hospital are given pink colour code. The first aid provided to the accident victims are conducted in the order of A, B, C or airway, breathing, circulation, bandage, splintage, and transport.
4. First aid for `breathing’
First step in the R.T.A. first aid is examination of the airway. The breathing is checked by placing fingers in front of the nostrils. If breath air flow is absent, examine the mouth and nose to check for any obstructing objects such as loose artificial dentures, mud etc. If the bones of the face are broken, place the `airway’ that makes a passage for the air from outside to enter in to the lungs. If the air is not entering the lungs after the airway is kept, pierce the trachea with five or six large bore injection needles to let the air in.
Next examine the breathing, by observing the chest movements or by using Stethoscope. If the victim is not breathing; give artificial respiration by `mouth to mouth’ breathing. This is given by making the victim lie on the floor and then extend the head of the victim and open the mouth by holding on the jaw. Keep a towel in front of the mouth of the victim. The provider takes deep breath and then exhales to the mouth of the victim by placing his mouth over the towel. This is repeated twelve times in a minute.
5. First aid for `circulation’
Next examine the `circulation’ or the functioning of the heart and blood vessels. Usually the heart function is assessed by palpating the `pulse’. Usually `radial pulse’ is palpated to assess the heart function. This is palpated by placing three fingers just below the front of the wrist, on the side of the thumb of the victim and the volunteers thumb on the back. Feel for the repeated elevations of the three fingers. 2
If the radial pulse is not available; look for carotid pulse. This is felt by placing the fingers of the provider in the upper part of the neck, just below the corner of the jaw. If this is also impalpable; then it can be concluded that heart is not beating sufficiently.
If the heart is not functioning sufficiently, artificially squeeze the heart from outside for sending the blood to entire body and this is called `cardiac massage’. For this; make the victim lie on a firm place and place the heel of the palm one above another on the lower part of sternum. Keeping the elbow and wrist straight, press the chest by giving force from the shoulder so as to press down the chest to one and half inches. This is repeated seventy two times in a minute. In children use one hand so as to press down the chest to one inch and in infants use two fingers so as to press down the chest to half an inch. Cardiac massage is continued till the functioning of the heart returns or up to half an hour. Once the heart starts functioning; Place the patient in the side position or in the `recovery’ position. If both the heart beating and respiration are absent; give the ‘cardiac massage’ and ‘mouth to mouth breathing’ in the ratio of 30:2 which means 30 ‘cardiac massages’ followed by two ‘mouth to mouth breathings’.
Next, search the body to identify bleeders. If the bleeding is occurring from the limbs, keep them elevated to reduce the blood flow. After that, give `pressure bandage’ by using pads and tie them with pressure. ‘Tourniquet’ or tying the limbs with rope may produce further damage to the limbs and hence must be avoided.
6. Rapid examination and fluid `shock’
Examine the head, eyes, nose, ears, chest, abdomen, pelvis and limbs to detect wounds, contusions etc. Ask the victim to move the toes, fingers and the limbs to check their movements or function. With the help of two volunteers keep the victim on the side position, identify the wounds on the back and check the tenderness behind the centre of neck and vertebral column. These examinations are to be done with in two minutes.
Fractures in the pelvic bones may produce oozing of blood to the abdominal cavity. This may cause death. Hence such a victim has to be shifted immediately to the hospital. A condition called `shock’ develops; when more than forty percent of the whole body blood is lost due to multiple bone fractures, deep wounds or pelvic bone fractures. The feeble pulse, cold and pale skin, fast and shallow breathing and loss of
3
consciousness are the signs of the `shock’. In such a stage; the legs should be elevated to shift the blood to the vital body parts like brain. At the accident site; penetrating objects should not be removed from the body of the victim because it may cause death due to internal bleeding.
7. Bandage, splinting and transport
Cover the all the significant wounds by using pads and bandages. The abnormal movement in the chest and breathing difficulty due to fractures of many ribs can be reduced by strapping the chest with cloth. If the abdominal viscera went outside the abdomen due to wounds, relocate it to the abdominal cavity and cover the abdomen with clean cloths.
Use splints in the case of fractures to prevent further damage to the near by tissues, blood loss, pain and edema. The available materials like wooden bars, Umbrella etc. may be used as splints to immobilize the fractures by tying them around the fractured limbs. A square shaped cloth may be folded to form a `triangular sling’. This is used for immobilizing upper limb fractures. A fractured lower limb may be immobilized by tying it to the uninjured lower limb with the help of four cloths.
The possibilities for vertebral fractures are high, if there is tenderness behind the centre of the neck. If the neck moves in such a victim, spinal cord may be damaged by the fractured vertebral column to produce paralyses of the limbs. Hence in such persons, the neck should be immobilized using hard cervical collar. If there is tenderness on the back of the centre of chest or abdomen, the victim should be shifted to the ambulance by four persons like a `log of wood’ or without bending the victims body.
8. Matters related to the hospitals
The decision to shift to the respective hospital is made after considering the financial status of the victim and the type and seriousness of the injuries. If the treatment for the specific injuries of the victim are available, it is better to shift to the near by hospital. The head injuries patients are to be shifted to a hospital were C.T. Scan and Neurosurgeon is available. The amputated body parts should be placed in a clean plastic bag which is placed in another plastic bag containing ice cubes and the bag is tied safely. This should be carried within 6 hours to a hospital with micro
4
vascular surgical facility. Victims with severe muscle or soft tissue loss are to be shifted to hospitals where facilities for plastic surgery are available. Hand injury victims may have tendon cuts which require suturing and hence they are to be shifted to hospitals having orthopaedic or plastic surgery departments.
In order to undergo anesthesia for major surgery, the patient has to abstain from taking food and drinks for six hours. The seriously injured victims should not be given food or drinks after the accident because they may require major surgery. After transporting the victim from the accident site; instead of forsaking the victims in the hospitals, intimate their relatives, give the doctor necessary information to write the police intimation and also if necessary arrange for blood transfusion.
9. Causes and solutions
Driving after consuming alcohol must be avoided because even with minor quantities of alcohol; decision making capacity, co-ordination, muscle strength, vision and hearing may be impaired. Drunken driving, sleepy driving, over speed, non use of seat belts or helmets, use of mobile phones during driving, carelessness and disobeying of traffic rules may cause R.T.A.s or make the injuries more grievous and hence must be avoided.
Those who drive the vehicles must rectify their health problems by undergoing time to time health check ups and treatments. Those who are in diseases like fever which causes tiredness, those with recurrent heart pain, fits and dizziness etc. and those who have taken medications that causes tiredness like that for allergy, should not drive vehicles. In the circumstance of increasing R.T.A.s and treatment expenses, every one must take R.T.A. health insurance. Well equipped first aid box in the vehicles and first aid training to all vehicle drivers and travelers can cause reduction of R.T.A. deaths and improve the quality of life obtained after the treatment completion of the injuries.

Viral Memetic Infection – The Psychological Stumbling Block of the Paranormal Community

Zeal. Fervor. Blind Faith. Unswerving Belief.

These are the symptoms and attributes that denote the ugly side of religion. Religion being that which is a system or enacted operation of ideas that are anchored into one’s psyche and thereby act as a format or basis of day to day functionality in one’s own life. We all have a religion, be it in the accepted wisdom traditions of the world, science, atheism, agnosticism or any structure whereby one has devised a foundation of principles to govern one’s self by.

A meme.

There is nothing inherently wrong with a memetic mindset unless the mindset is one of division, polarity or a superiority complex in nature. These tend to be harmful as brother against brother and sister against sister exact a very real and principled physical or mental judgment of cruelty on one another with both sides thinking they are right in their zealotry to reaffirm their beliefs within themselves in a self righteous way. I give you the condition of the world today as an example of this infectious memetic polarity brought about by religious divisiveness in which others suffer at the hands of anothers beliefs.

What I wish to address in this article is viral memetic infection in which an idea spreads like a disease from mind to mind from it’s source or origin that is accepted unquestionably as is with no thought of potential harm to one’s self or another with the other idea that by following, one is doing a greater good. Many cults of infamy such as the Peoples’ Temple of Jim Jones, Heaven’s Gate of which I lost a distant family member of mine and the Unification Church are all examples of a mass viral memetic infection.

All it takes is a somewhat educated Alpha Personality with a megalomaniacal ego and a penchant for power to instill a plausible but still askew set of ethics and ideals into the mushy minds of the “lost” or low self esteemed seeker. Does this sound familiar to you? Let’s take away the rituals of obvious religious overtones and change the names of the memetic seed planters who love to find the feeble minded that don’t think for themselves to build a cult of personality upon full of just as much zeal, fervor and unbending faith as any fundamentalist religion and call it UFOlogy.

I think that this is a valid assessment and observation although not a new one. The obviousness of it, however, is more on the nose today than it ever was.

Their are two major infectious memes plaguing the Paranormal Community today and they are easily recognized as the two camps known as the True Believers and the Debunkers leaving the precious few Skeptics scattered haphazardly and thinly throughout the middle somewhere. Both are highly zealous in nature. Both have an unswerving faith in their beliefs that allows them to preconceive an entire notion or decision without reviewing any other possibilities, evidences or processes. The only difference between these viral memes is simply one idea. A belief. Other than that, both seem to be terrified of the prospect of not knowing. They are hellbent to know something even if they have to make it up so as to establish some sort of safety or security net even if that same net is tied to imaginary posts.

There are many cults of personality in the Paranormal Community and it is becoming so accepted as such that the acceptance of these viral memetic infections is yet another submeme of the acceptance itself. It is very subtle and it is rife with myriad nuances and almost imperceptible subconscious beliefs of its own also based on perceptively real fears. It is all a very confused and convoluted mess and each interwoven layer is yet another virulent and infectious meme.

Memes themselves are an oddity in that the highly subjective nature of one’s own perception would almost seem like a fail safe against them as each and every perception is unique with no exception to that rule yet here it is that someone comes up with a compelling idea and subsequently almost without fail, others, not experiencing the originator’s point of view or perception, blindly accept the idea unquestionably and thus are ensnared into following with no more thought to their act of following than a “this guy is right” perception and mentality.

Am I the only one that finds the obviousness of this running rampant throughout the Paranormal Community and UFOlogy in particular? I should hope not but then again, I don’t want you to take my ideas as wrote and start following me or my line of thinking. I have tendencies toward being a hermit and wish no one to be that close to me. I would rather you thought for yourself! It is only because I am personally affected by the invasive thoughts and actions of the self perceived self righteous that I right this at all. It is a selfish indulgence, I know. So be it. My motivation doesn’t take away from the validity of the point being made in any way.

You are alone in all of your perceptions and experiences. Only you can ascertain a direction of action should there be any to take, point being, make sure that you are clearly deciding for yourself and not blindly following the unproven ideals, principles and contructs as outlined by the unclear thinking of another.

The ultimate pointing out and intent of this article is simple. I can’t, nor can anybody else tell you what to think or how to think. This is impossible. Everything that comes into your mind is there because your either

A) Created it, or

B) Allowed it to be put there

You have a choice. All I ask is that you exercise that precious ability of choice. The bottom line is, nobody has any answers for YOU. Nobody has the truth for YOU. Nobody knows something that you don’t because there is nothing to know! Literally!

Think for yourself. Decide for yourself. Act for yourself. These are brave and courageous deeds but again these are foul, vicious and heinous times and no less an ethic will assuage the unfounded assertions of a self proclaimed prophet or power monger.

Free thyself for thyself…

Cheers,

~Erik~

Viral Meningitis Symptoms

Viral meningitis is the most common form. Usually viruses that enter your body through your mouth before going to your brain and multiplying cause it. You can find these viruses in the mucus, saliva and feces. A viral infection headache can come from different types of viruses. The concern about having such headaches is that the root cause may be meningitis. Straight away the doctors put me in for a brain scan. As I waited for the results the doctors told me it was one of three things: viral meningitis; bacterial meningitis or a brain hemorrhage. Meningitis symptoms are typically characterized by bad headaches, stiff neck, tiredness, vomiting, fever , leg pain, dull skin tone and difficulty in consuming food and drinks. 1-Nausea and vomiting
2-Extreme sensitivity to light (photophobia)
3-Stiff neck
4-Head ache
5-Fever (may have sudden onset) The bacteria are highly toxic. They attack the nasal tract and invade the bloodstream. Their main target is the brain. When they reach the blood-brain barrier, they destroy the defence system, enter the CSF and attack the brain cells. As the infection spreads, the fluid becomes pus-like, with white blood cells, proteins and extra fluid all trying to fight the infection. Causes The bacteria and virus that cause general illness can also caused meningitis. Sometimes the bacteria and viruses that infect the skin, urinary system, gastrointestinal or respiratory tract can spread by the bloodstream to the meningitis through cerebrospinal fluid, the fluid that circulates in and around the spinal cord. The cerebrospinal fluid in bacterial meningitis is usually characterized by marked elevations in protein concentration, an very reduced glucose level, and, in the absence of previous antibiotic treatment, a positive Gram stain for bacteria. Viral meningitis is the most common form. Usually viruses that enter your body through your mouth before going to your brain and multiplying cause it. You can find these viruses in the mucus, saliva and feces. Other viruses that may cause meningitis include: Chickenpox , Flu, Mumps, HIV ,Genital herpes. Meningococcal meningitis is endemic in parts of Africa, India, and other developing nations. Bacterial meningitis is contagious, which means it can be passed to someone else by spit or snot. Symptoms in infants under 12 months include high fever, fretfulness, irritability – particularly when handled, difficulty awakening, drowsiness, difficulty feeding, and/or a stiff neck, or bulging fontanelle. Viral meningitis is caused by enteroviruses, as the name implies. Highly infectious, the disease is spread easily through secretions of the nose and mouth. Three to seven days is the incubation period of the virus, starting with the infection through to the appearance of the first symptoms. Different types of meningitis can be caused by many elements with a variety of symptoms, but one symptom that may or may not be present is that of meningitis rash. It is important to know what to watch for as this symptom could indicate the immediate need for treatment. The treatment that you will receive for meningitis depends on the underlying cause of the condition. If it is viral meningitis you will usually only require symptom relief such as bed rest and increased fluid. Bacterial meningitis requires prompt intravenous (IV) and antibiotic treatment. These will prevent serious complications as well as neurological damage. The next step in understanding these concepts is to analyze the first parts of the words. “Mening-” refers to the meninges which are the membranous coverings of the brain and spinal cord. So “meningitis” means inflammation or infection of these membranous coverings. Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. International travelers should discuss the danger as well as prevention and treatment of this disease before departure.

Will the Delay with DMOZ Take a Toll on it’s Value?

Over the last year or two Google has exploded with new features for webmasters who utilize its services. But with all the changes, what impact is it having on the webmasters who rely on having their sites show up in Google searches?

Let’s say you build a website surrounding a particular product or service and have a targeted audience segment for online buyers. You’ve done your homework and found that the competition is moderate at best. After some well planned SEO work and a little marketing you are all set to see how your site is positioned on Google. Take into consideration that you are not ready to spend a lot of money on adWords until you see some results from your SEO work.

Ok, here’s the kicker…your website doesn’t even exist on Google for weeks or maybe even months. Have all the changes to Google’s infrastructure hindered the ambition or motivation of webmasters? Or, has it given new respect to patience and planning? With new tools such as Google Documents and Spreadsheets, Maps, Video, Checkout, and webmaster tools such as Base, Sitemaps, and Analytics, web surfers have all kinds of tools available to make the web a more interesting and productive place.

Many webmasters already know that getting listed in Open Directories is beneficial. But while you’re waiting on Google to index and crawl your website, you might as well go ahead and list your web URL with DMOZ. DMOZ is slowly becoming a trouble spot with those interested in getting their site listed. There are documented articles of people who have waited over 2 years to get their websites listed on DMOZ. Are they that busy? Should they hire more editors, or just more efficient ones? If this directory takes so long to get into, and is a prime source for all major search engines, what are we to think? Are webmasters losing out because of the delay? Is it still as valuable as it once was? Many webmasters who frequent SEO forums are speaking up and stating that it’s not worth the wait anymore. Will this be a wake-up call to DMOZ? Let’s hope. It’s time to make a decision and get things going.

Case in point, I own a website which has been in existence for 5 months. It has been properly built following standardized SEO practices. Oddly enough, it appears on Google, Yahoo and MSN when searching for “portal deployment”, but has yet to get listed in DMOZ. It has been submitted weeks ago, but knowing the turn-around time, it may not get listed for months or close to a year from now. Let me remind you that the SEO practices followed were “organic”, no fancy or expensive outsourcing took place. So why the listing difference? Google noticed the site and has even picked up the changes to the which happened weeks ago.

We all know the internet is growing at an exponential rate, hundreds of thousands of new domain names are registered each week, but shouldn’t companies like DMOZ be more prepared to react to the growth? If you’ve followed the steps for successful SEO and haven’t seen the result, be patient. I do believe the DMOZ will snap to attention after more and more people complain about the long delay for getting their URL listed. If you have feedback on how to expedite the process of having your website crawled or listed on DMOZ let me know. Then share it with everyone else.
